Roth IRA Calculator

How to use: Enter your current Roth balance, how much you add each year, the expected yearly return and the number of years.

How the Roth IRA calculator works

A Roth IRA is funded with money you have already paid tax on, so qualified withdrawals in retirement are tax-free. This Roth IRA calculator adds your contribution at the end of each year and grows the balance at your chosen return. The growth shown is money that can come out tax-free if the rules are met.

Example

Starting with $5,000 and contributing $7,500 a year at 7% for 35 years gives a balance of about $1.09 million. You would contribute $267,500, and about $822,700 would be growth.

2026 limits to know

For 2026 the IRA contribution limit is $7,500, or $8,600 if you are 50 or older. Direct Roth contributions phase out between $153,000 and $168,000 of modified adjusted gross income for single filers, and between $242,000 and $252,000 for married couples filing jointly. These limits change most years, so check the IRS site before you contribute.
