Which calculator should I use?
- You want to see how deposits grow over time: Compound Interest
- You want to see future value with inflation in mind: Investment
- You want to compare simple and compound interest: Simple Interest
- You are thinking about a certificate of deposit: CD Calculator
Simple interest vs compound interest
Simple interest is calculated only on the original amount. Compound interest is calculated on the original amount plus the interest already earned, so growth speeds up over time. The longer the time and the higher the rate, the bigger the gap between the two.
That is why starting early matters. Try the same deposit over 10, 20 and 30 years in the compound interest calculator and compare the results.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between simple and compound interest?
Simple interest is paid only on the starting amount. Compound interest is also paid on interest already earned. Savings accounts usually compound, while some short-term loans and bonds use simple interest.
Do these calculators include taxes, fees or market changes?
No. Real returns vary from year to year, and taxes and fees reduce them. Treat each result as an estimate, and try a lower rate to see a more cautious picture.
